BioTrust is a new supplement company entering the online marketplace, and I was excited to review their new protein powder mostly because it was all natural and very low in carbohydrates. The company BioTrust has been receiving a ton of hype recently with their launch and I want to make sure that their protein powder was good enough to meet my approval. So as BioTrust opened for business I immediately placed an order for their Low Carb protein powder.

I’ve honestly tried around 100 different kinds of protein powders in my day with the vast majority of them either tasting like garbage, containing horrible ingredients and/or are way overpriced. I usually still get a few different kinds of protein powders per month in the mail from companies wanting me to try out their product. I’m usually always disappointed, and I would never recommend those horrible and underperforming protein powders to anybody that I know.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the package for my BioTrust Low Carb protein powder was that the container was pretty small. I’m a pretty big guy at 6’3” and over 200 pounds so I usually consume a lot of the stuff over the course of a month. Since I would require more servings than the average person I went ahead and ordered two containers so that they would last me the entire month. Although, I would think for most people they wouldn’t need quite this much in the same time frame.

After mixing my first serving of the Low Carb protein I found that it mixed pretty well in my shaker cup and that there wasn’t any weird residue left behind. This may sound strange, but I have seen quite a few protein powders on the market that are so packed with artificial ingredients that they leave a strange residue behind them. One of the reasons BioTrust Low Carb won me over is because they have no artificial ingredients, and instead use stevia to naturally sweeten their products. At first I was also concerned that this wouldn’t taste very good because some all-natural supplements have it rough getting the taste down because they can’t load it with sugar. I was happy to find that the protein tasted really well mixed with good old-fashioned water, and I didn’t need to put anything extra and like fruit to make it taste better.

The taste of any protein powder is very critical because if it tastes like dirt then you’re not going to want to use it, and if you don’t want to use it then you just wasted a lot of your money. So even though BioTrust’s Low Carb protein powder doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners or sugars they still manage to make a great tasting product that I found myself craving for throughout the day. Just to let you know that the protein also tastes very good when combined with other supplements such as Athletic Greens and fruit. I also sometimes like to toss in 3/4 cup of wild organic blueberries to add in some antioxidants and flavor to any protein that I have.

Another gripe that I had with BioTrust is the protein powder is only available online so you can’t just walk down to your local nutrition shop and pick up a tub of it. Sometimes I’m so busy that it’s hard for me to plan ahead so placing an order online well before I finish the protein powder doesn’t happen too often. I also never like paying for shipping and handling so this also held me back from ordering more BioTrust Low Carb. With these small gripes aside I found that it’s really a good idea to go ahead and set myself reminders to order it every month because I really enjoy the taste and it has the lowest amount of carbohydrates compared to any other protein powder on the market that’s all-natural.

So why is it so important that you consume a low carbohydrate protein powder? If you’re trying to lose fat then controlling your carb intake is going to be very very important because too many carbs essentially equals more fat gain. Also the BioTrust Low Carb protein powder has only 1g sugar which somehow found its way in there along with the 24g of protein per serving. Also keep in mind that their protein contains 4g of high quality fiber, which will also help to enhance your fat burning metabolism.

Another benefit I found using BioTrust Low Carb was the digestive enzyme blend they’ve included called ProHydrolase, which will enhance your body’s ability to breakdown the protein so it can more easily get absorbed and sent into the muscle. I’ve never seen another protein powder that also contained an enzyme blend to enhance that the digestive process. So if you have an underperforming digestive tract then I’d definitely give BioTrust Low Carb a try, and even if you don’t then you’ll reap the benefits of having these included in your protein powder.

One thing I tell my clients all the time it is that you pay for what you get. If you want a hire a dirt cheap trainer you can expect dirt cheap results as well. There is a reason that the best people in the world charge a lot for what they do and this protein powder is no different. Yes it’s all more expensive than most protein powders on the market. But it’s also loaded with all natural ingredients and it’s processed the best way possible. If you go to Target or Walmart looking for protein powder you’ll find most of those cheap proteins have been denatured from high heat processing. This essentially means that the protein your consuming has severely dropped in quality since it was heated so high.

Overall I found that I really like BioTrust is low-carb protein powder and there’s not a shadow of doubt in my mind that I would recommend it to all of my clients. It’s really a great protein powder and it’s worth the extra trouble to order it online. It tastes great, is all natural, low in carbohydrates and as an added bonus it comes in a cool blue container. dark-side-of-fat-loss-reviewIn this Dark Side of Fat Loss review I’m going to share with you my personal thoughts on the program created by Sean Croxton of Underground Wellness.  If you’re unaware who Croxton he’s a CHEK Certified Holistic Lifestyle Coach as well as a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist.  I first came across Croxton on YouTube and I was immediately impressed with both his passion and knowledge for an underground approach to a healthy lifestyle.

I personally purchased the Dark Side of Fat Loss when it was first released and after pouring over every piece of information I can honestly tell you this is one of, if not the most complete, nutrition packages I’ve seen being released on the internet.  The thing I really love about the book is that Croxton writes likes he’s talking with his best friend and even though there are a few “big” words in the book he explains it so even a 10 year old can comprehend it.

I’ve read a lot of health books in my day and I’ll be honest when I tell you the majority of them stand on a podium and talk down to the reader but with the Dark Side of Fat Loss I found this clearly wasn’t the case.  The book starts off with Croxton discussing how everything he learned in college was totally WRONG and after a long time of frustratingly disappointing results with his clients he finally decided to find an alternative route to fat loss.

Conventional theories on fat loss such as calories in equals calories out and slow-go cardio turned out to be complete B.S. and I will agree with that 100%.  Starving your body while jogging on the treadmill for an hour today isn’t going to produce the results you’re looking for if you’re goal is fat loss.  In fact, I consider it to be a borderline torture!

In addition to the in depth nutritional information Croxton also digs a little deeper at some of the other causes of why we put on fat and can’t seem to get it off.  Many of these reasons are also why we can’t sleep well at night, have digestive issues and are stressed out of our mines.  He introduces a lot of concepts that will have you not only burning more fat but living a healthier and happier lifestyle.

In my Truth About Abs review I’m going to tell you my thoughts on this complete training program that was created by Mike Geary.  The Truth About Abs, also known as The Truth About Six Pack Abs is one of the first digital products that I ever purchased over the internet and I haven’t regretted it since.

It’s been quite a few years since I’ve purchased my original copy but everything inside of it still applies today and everything I’ve learned from the Truth About Abs book has influenced my own style of training and nutrition.

I honestly had never really heard of Mike Geary before so I was a little skeptical about the program overall but after hearing a recommendation from a friend for the program I decided to go ahead and take action on purchasing my own copy.

The main point behind The Truth About Abs is that author Mike Geary doesn’t try to sell you on a quick fix workout program that will suddenly solve all of your problems as fat melts completely off of your body.  Instead he offers the truth to leaning out your abs and it doesn’t involve doing a thousands of sit-ups per day.

The Truth About Abs Review: Nutrition

He acknowledges how important diet is to getting the fat loss results that you want and it’s so critical that he devotes the first half of the book strictly to nutrition.  And he doesn’t offer the same regurgitated nutrition advice such as the Food Pyramid and all that junk.

Instead he offers a more unique taking on nutrition and just about everything he discusses in this section will help you get toned abs faster than doing sit-ups until the sun goes down.  He also firmly states in the book that if you can’t handle eating healthier than all the exercise in the world isn’t going to make a difference.  To lose fat you’re going to have to get your nutrition under control and there’s no way around it.

Geary starts off the Truth About Abs by firmly stating the importance of your diet and how it is critical if you want to develop lean abs.  Most people unfortunately have it wrong because they think you can use specific abdominal exercises to spot-reduce the fat on your stomach, but this is definitely not the truth.  The truth is you first have to put a ton of focus into your nutrition and make sure you’re eating the foods that will help you burn fat rather than put it on.


The nutrition section in the Truth About Abs manual also directly tells the reader to avoid grains and unhealthy carbohydrates to reduce stomach fat.  Keep your blood sugar and insulin levels is a key reason why some people have lean abs and why some people carry a lot of stomach fat.  He goes on to say you should avoid the foods that cause your blood sugar to spike including:

  • refined processed carbohydrates
  • white bread
  • pasta
  • white potatoes
  • ice cream
  • bananas
  • cakes
  • baked goods
Instead of eating these bad carbohydrates it will be much more important to focus on slow digesting foods that are rich in protein and will not cause your blood sugar to spike.  Some of these slower digesting proteins that Geary recommends includes:
  • eggs
  • meat
  • cottage cheese
  • casein blend protein powder

I also wanted to make sure I made note of the authors stance against fad diets in my Truth About Abs review because as a personal trainer and nutritionist I hate seeing people jump from diet to diet with yo-yo results.  While Geary is definitely against consuming the bad carbohydrates he is also firmly against a low-carb diet such as the Atkins.  There are many healthy alternatives to carbohydrates consumption that the author makes sure you’re aware of such as vegetables and low-glycemic fruits.

“EATING FAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT!” says Geary who basically just kicked any low-fat diet in the crotch with that bold statement.  So called experts have long been adamant for a low-fat/high-carbohydrate diet since the 1980’s and since then the obesity, cancer and heart disease rates have only risen.  Animal fats also should not be avoided while following the Truth About Abs as long as it is from organic grass-fed animals that are free-range.

Even though you may be following some of the healthy foods on Geary’s list for the Truth About Abs you have to also make sure that the food you’re consuming is in its most natural and unprocessed state which the author states is the way we were meant to eat food.  Eating foods that have refined flour, refined sugar, refined vegetable oils all are leaded causes towards obesity and heart disease.

Truth About Abs Review: Training Principles

But this isn’t to say that he doesn’t give any abdominal training strategies throughout the book.  I had to mention in this Truth About Abs review the high quality of information Mike Geary provides when it comes to training for a toned stomach.

Even though most of us would like to prefer the easy way of just doing an abdominal workout routine a few times a week Mike Geary knows better and he says this explicitly in The Truth About Abs.

He offers training advice that most of us wouldn’t like to hear but it’s information that we need to hear if we ever plan on transforming our bodies.  Because the truth about abs is to do more total body resistance training exercise combined with high intensity interval training to increase your metabolic rate and then you’ll lose fat rapidly.

He goes in depth about these training principles in the Truth About Abs but I also liked how he didn’t make anything seem like it was too complex.  Most of the fitness trainers who write books for the average Joe’s write down to them and start using all of these crazy fancy big words to make themselves sound smart.  As I read deeper into the Truth About Abs I realized it felt more like a friend was explaining this information to me rather than some snooty fitness diva.

Overall I’m extremely satisfied with investing in The Truth About Abs and I can say that it has helped shape my own philosophies on nutrition and training for fat loss.  There aren’t too many quality all around programs out there when it comes to fat loss but I can happily say in my Truth About Abs review that this one delivers.
