Choosing the right foods from a healthy snacks list is going to be super important to keep your fat burning engines revving and to keep your blood sugar levels from dipping too low.
Snacking the right way will help keep your body from going into the “hunger pains” and that’s when you get so hungry that you instinctively want to eat a giant pizza and chase it with a bacon milkshake. Yuk!
Why Having A Healthy Snacks List Is Important
The key to avoiding the “hunger pains” is to make sure you have a healthy snacks list around so you don’t go too long without any food.
This is the #1 reason why people kill their diets by binge eating and it can easily be prevented just by keeping your blood sugar at a stable level.
Make sure you also see my 11 Healthy Snacks For Weight Loss post I did a little while back with some great fat burning foods to snack on during your day.
But unfortunately there are also some of the foods on a healthy snacks list will actually cause you to GAIN fat rather than burn it off.
Healthy Snacks List To Avoid
1) Dried Fruit
I fell prey to snacking on dried fruit a few years ago and it really hampered my results. Fruit naturally contains a lot of sugar in the form of fructose which will already spike our blood sugar levels, but many of the dried fruits out there also have had sugar added to them as well.
Not to mention how easy it is to to overeat dried fruit when it’s conveniently sitting in a little plastic bag in front of you while you’re busy working on the computer. I remember when I would go through a whole bag of apricots in one sitting!
Having a little dried fruit here and there isn’t going to kill you but eating it straight up is a recipe of an overeating disaster.
2) 100 Calorie Packs
I”m sure you’ve seen those 100 calorie packs at the grocery store advertising you can still eat that bag of chocolate chip cookies just because it’s only 100 calories.
If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know I’m not about the quantity of calories you consume but the quality of the calories.
Eating chocolate chip cookies in any caloric amount will still spike your insulin levels and thus pack all of those empty calories you just ate into your love handles.
3) Trail Mix
The majority of the trail mixes you see at the grocery stores are a “mix” of high amounts of salt, sugar and fat. Most of the trail mixes out there look healthy because they have a lot of nuts, dried fruit and granola.
But it’s WAY too easy to overeat on these snacks as it is and overall they just aren’t very healthy for you. They’ll most likely elevate your insulin levels and you’ll just store the high amount of calories and fat in these trail mixes in your belly.
