Stability Ball Abs Workout

I’m back in action today with a new workout video designed to be used with a stability ball. Considering my last workout video was well over a few months ago this one was long overdue. I’m hoping to keep these workout videos coming if you guys like them enough.

The stability ball is a good tool to have in your fitness toolbox. Now I wouldn’t replace it over dumbbells, kettlebells and a TRX. There are more essentials tools to have in your fitness arsenal than the stability ball, but it definitely does have it’s place.

I usually only use the stability ball for abs and a couple stretching exercises. Although you can use the stability ball as a substitute bench if you don’t already have one in your home gym for exercises such as chest press.

But I’m begging you to please don’t try standing on top of the ball like you’re in Cirque du Soleil.

Now that that’s out of the way let’s get down and dirty for the workout. It consists of just 5 exercises timed 40 seconds each without any rest in between exercises. This way you’re going to keep constant tension on those abdominals. To effectively train your abs they need to be constantly working. The more you rest in between exercises means you’re going to take off the tension, and therefore, decrease the effectiveness.

Stability Ball Abs Workout Exercise List

  1. Reverse Rollout to Pike
  2. Crunches
  3. Reverse Crunches
  4. Stir-the-Pot Planks
  5. Hand to Foot Transfers

You’re going to get 3 rounds total of this workout and if you need to take a break after completing the first round try not to go longer than 40 seconds. If you feel a burn in your abs thats a good thing. No pain no gain!

Whenever I put up an “abs workout” I always want to put up the disclaimer that this will not do very much, if anything, to drop belly fat. Losing your belly is going to rely on diet and high intensity interval training. Abs workouts like these are going to help tone up your stomach so there’s definition as opposed to a flabby looking midsection.
