Avocados. At first thought you’ll probably think that avocados are actually packed with fats, and you’re right but also wrong. Yes it’s true that avocados have a high amount of fat in them but they’re monounsaturated fats. These specific kind of fats that have a lot of benefits to them that don’t result in your stomach getting bigger. Avocados are packed with fat fighting fiber, help to regulate blood sugar, anti-cancer benefits and are anti-inflammatory.
Almonds. In my humble opinion almonds are the king of the nuts along with Lady Gaga. Just like avocados they are high in fat but it’s the good fats they’re packed with. Eating fats isn’t bad for you. In fact your body needs them, but you should be eating the healthy fats while avoiding the unhealthy ones like a little kid screaming his head off. The monounsaturated fats almonds come packed with help to reduce stomach fat while also reducing bad cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease.
Eggs. I can’t stand seeing people throw out egg yolks and only eating the whites! The yolks are where practically all of the nutrients are, and if you’re throwing them out you may as well throw yourself out with them. Make sure you buy free range chickens, preferably pasture fed, and not the cheap eggs from the sickly caged GMO-corn fed chickens. Eating the yolks won’t cause your cholesterol to spike and the plethora of nutrients in eggs will help you burn belly fat significantly better than the typical bagel breakfast.
Dark Chocolate. Don’t get too excited as Snickers, Kit Kats and Reese’s Pieces don’t count here. I’m talking about dark chocolate that’s at least 78% cocoa and doesn’t have sugar in it. The dark chocolate has a ton of antioxidants as well as belly fat blasting stimulants such as caffeine and theobromine. I like to eat dark chocolate as the occasional late night dessert.
Green Tea. The best nutrient green tea is packed with is epigallocatechin-3-gallate also known as EGCG. This is an antioxidants that recent research has found to help with belly fat in obese and overweight individuals. The study found men lost twice as much weight and fat loss but what was most interesting was the group who drank the green tea also had four times as much belly fat loss as the placebo group. There are a lot of other benefits to drinking green tea besides this so if you’re not into drinking it I’d recommend at least taking some green tea extract.
Coconut Oil. Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) are the secret belly fat killing ingredient found in coconuts. This highly important fat is most likely going to be used as energy instead of being stored in your stomach. Make sure you strictly buy organic extra virgin coconut oil to keep the lauric acid and caprylic acid. I prefer to cook with coconut oil over olive oil with a lot of my meats. It doesn’t taste too good if you use it to cook eggs as I’ve had the unfortunate experience of learning on my own.
Cinnamon. Cinnamon is a great spice you can add to your food and beverages. It has many thermogenic properties that can strengthen your metabolism. Additionally, cinnamon has been found to help regulate your blood sugar meaning you shouldn’t experience as dramatic insulin spikes as a result. Increased insulin has been found to lead to the storage of belly fat. Also, I can’t help but love the taste of cinnamon. You can lose weight with cinnamon when combined with an effective nutrition system.
Salmon. A few of the very powerful fat burning ingredients you can find in salmon include protein, omega-3 fatty acids and low in calories. Omega-3’s are very beneficial to reducing inflammation and fat stored in your body. To get many of the benefits that salmon provides also look into taking a good fish oil supplement.
Collard Greens. Probably the most nutrient rich green veggie on the planet. Very low in calories but packed with vitamins and fiber. I like to blend in 2-3 leaves of collard greens into my protein shakes. Dark green leafy veggies and cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower) have been found to also reduce estrogen levels meaning you’ll be less likely to store fat in your belly.
Oatmeal. To be honest I’m pretty indifferent when it comes to oatmeal. I know there are many benefits to eating it but it just doesn’t resonate with my body so I avoid eating it. But in all fairness I know plenty of people who love to eat it so by all means go for it. It’s got a ton of fiber in it along with protein which will keep you full and keep you from snacking. If you do just make sure you go with steel cut oats as it’s less processed and therefore shouldn’t cause your blood sugar to raise as much.
Beans. Very high in fiber and low in fat beans are well known for being the “magical fruit.” I prefer black beans for their higher antioxidant content, but overall beans are a great choice. There’s no doubt low carb diets are very effective for fat loss and beans are a good choice to replace many other carbs in the modern American diet such as bread, pancakes and Egg McMuffins.
Probiotics. When I first tell people about how good these little bugs in their gut are for them they get a little freaked out. But it’s 100% true these little critters are actually going to help you burn belly fat. Probiotics can positively affect the way your body absorbs calories and fats from foods, and a study published in the Journal of Functional Foods found those who took probiotic supplements actually saw 3% loss in body fat (which is great) most of which coming off the belly. I highly recommend Athletic Greens for a probiotic supplement.
Berries. Lower in sugar than most fruits and high in antioxidants I absolutely love to eat berries. My favorite are wild blueberries that I like to blend in my post-workout protein shakes. Relatively recent research has found rats eating a blueberry rich diet lost abdominal fat, and this has caused the researchers to hypothesize blueberries can change the way our bodies absorb and store glucose.
